Number of Apps in Google Play and iOS App Store

The number of apps in both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store grew significantly from the start of the 2010s to the end, but in the latter half of the decade Apple and Google started to remove some of the inactive and non-compliant apps from their respective stores. This reduced the total app count considerably, and both store operators have made it more difficult to have an app listed on their stores. Apple has seen more growth over the past five years in terms of app count.
