The Apple App Store is the second largest app store in the world, behind Google Play, and over 32 billion apps and games were downloaded in 2022. Apple originally launched the App Store in 2008 with an initial 500 apps available, this quickly blossomed to over one million. Games are still the most popular category for downloads, but contribute to less of the overall downloads on the Apple App Store in comparison to the Google Play store.
