The Google Play and iOS App Store are responsible for over 90 percent of all mobile app downloads, with the two app stores operating a duopoly in almost all countries, with China being the sole exception due to Google Play being banned. Over 140 million apps and games are downloaded each year across both of these platforms, with Google Play responsible for over 75 percent of these downloads. Games are by far the most popular category, accounting for 39 percent of all downloads.
